Well, the 2014 portion of the wrestling season is now over. For me, it was a lighter December as I only covered four dual meets for the Bedford Gazette. Between being out of town right before Christmas, family time over the holidays, and my son's first birthday this past week, I didn't get to much. No complaints whatsoever, just a little anxious to see some more action on the mat.
That will change soon, as once the middle of January hits, it's six or seven marathon weekends until the finish line in Hershey in March.
I did start my second month of the season in another state tonight, as I went to Fort Hill in Cumberland to check out the Super Duals. While there aren't any powerhouse teams there often, I do enjoy going there to see some different teams and wrestlers. This year, Northern Garrett is there, so that was a chance to see some of the kids that will be at the Thomas Subaru Tournament later this month. For coverage purposes, I took in the first three matches for Hyndman. The Hornets opened with wins over Fort Hill and Frankfort, before losing on criteria to Southern Garrett. You can see my coverage in Saturday's Gazette.
Tomorrow, if weather permits, I plan to be at Chestnut Ridge for a dual with Somerset. (6 p.m. start with junior high beforehand). The Lions are clearly the best team in my local area, though I haven't had the chance to watch them yet. Save the best for last, I guess, as they say. Anyway, here's one other note of interest:
— In my season preview chat (December 4 Live Chat), I had said I wasn't sure if the Thomas Tournament team lineup had any changes. I have gotten word that Central Cambria and Greenville are in while Shade is out. Central Cambria's Max Murin gives the event another returning state placewinner, and Greenville appears to be solid after winning the Southmoreland Holiday Classic on Monday and Tuesday.
