Despite the bitterly cold temperatures across the region, several wrestling matches will take place tonight. I'll be at Northern Bedford as Chestnut Ridge pays a visit to the Loysburg gym. You'll be able to see my coverage in Friday's Bedford Gazette.
One scratch for the day was Somerset at Bedford, and there is no word yet on a makeup date. Here's a few other items of interest:
— I was finally able to catch up with Chestnut Ridge's Trent Crouse (with lateness apologies to his fan club) for a feature about his 100th career win, which happened at last week's Powerade Tournament. My story was in today's Gazette. Crouse and teammate Derrick Claar are the first two to get to 100 this season from my area. Obviously, the pair have higher aspirations, including getting past the regional tournament for what would be the first time for each come the postseason.
— State rankings have recently been released by Off the Mat and PA Power. On the team front, Chestnut Ridge is #3 by Off the Mat and #11 by PA Power in Class AA.
— In a District 3 cross-class match this week, Cumberland Valley posted a 50-17 win over Boiling Springs. The Class AAA Eagles dominated the Class AA Bubblers (ranked second in both polls) in taking 10 of the 14 weight classes.
