Powerade, Southmoreland info

I've had a lot going on over the holidays here and couldn't make it to Canon-McMillan today as I had been hoping for the Powerade Tournament. But I've had a chance to scan the brackets and here's a couple of things I've noticed from there and at Southmoreland, where Northern Bedford is competing:

— So much for seeding at 106 as Chestnut Ridge's Aaron Burkett, the second seed, was knocked into the consolations by unseeded Patrick Glory of Delbarton, NJ. Glory won that bout, 8-0, after beating #7 seed Abe Guariello of Fort LeBoeuf 9-0.
Obviously, to put up 17 unanswered points against a pair of highly seeded kids in this dandy of a tournament must mean Glory is pretty good. I hadn't heard of the freshman, though being familiar with Delbarton somewhat from my days in New Jersey, I know it's one of the best wrestling programs in that state. I did some research to see that Glory finished fourth at last weekend's Beast of the East Tournament in Delaware, so it's no fluke to see him in the Powerade semifinals. He'll meet Benton's Alan Diltz, who I went back to see that Burkett pinned him in the first round of state duals two years ago.

— Kudos to Chestnut Ridge's Trent Crouse, who picked up his 100th career win today. Not being able to talk to Trent today, I'll work to catch up with him later in the week for a story for the Bedford Gazette.

— The Lions were in 18th place as of this blog post, with five wrestlers still alive in the consolation brackets. It did appear as if Brandyn Beaver (182) and Shane Davis (285) each beat a #7 seed in their paths, while Dylan Williams (113) seems to be showing himself well despite not being one of those remaining. Williams, who has wrestled at 106 to this point, switched spots with Burkett for now and probably the rest of the season, as a source says that Blake Dunlap has left the team.

— My first look at the Southmoreland brackets shows a minor surprise in Meyersdale's Christian Hutzell beating Northern Bedford's Lucas Kolinchak in a 170-pound quarterfinal, 2-0. Both wrestlers were district runner-ups last season, Hutzell at 160 and Kolinchak at 170.
